This month our theme is COMMUNITY! Thank you to everyone who helped participate in Homecoming Sunday and make it a great return to the church community for the Fall season.
This week, we're looking at Jeremiah 32 and how the Israelites were taken captive to Babylon. It was a super tough time for the Israelites! We're reading "The Day War Came" by Nicola Davies. This book, published in association with Help Refugees, tells the story of a young girl who must leave her home because of war. This book may be especially useful at this time, when wars, refugees, and immigration are constant refrains in the news.
These stories help remind us that God is with us wherever we are and however difficult things get. We can also remember that God wants us to welcome folks into the community, like the little girl in the story. There is always enough room at God's table!

Our theme this month is COMMUNITY. Part of being in community is acting with respect and in ways that are mindful of the whole. In our scripture story this week, Simeon makes friends and conducts his business by being dishonest! What a bummer. That's not a good way to treat the community!
This week we explore a little basic lesson in Kantian ethics with "What if Everybody Did That?" by Ellen Javernick. In this story, a kid makes some decisions that he thinks don't matter much, but he's asked by people in his life, "What if everybody did that?" and he imagines the consequences. Whatifeverybody littered? Whatifeverybody fed wild animals? Whatifeverybody hugged people they loved? We can all use this simple question to ask ourselves whether we are acting for the good of the community or acting in a way that might not be good for others.

This lesson is for the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 20). We are talking about Luke 16:1-13.

This month we're talking about COMMUNITY. In September, we celebrate coming back together after Summer vacations with Homecoming Sunday! It's a fun day to remember who we are as a church and to get started on all of the fun activities of Fall!
This week we're exploring Luke 15 through a book by Amy-Jill Levine and Sandy Eisenberg Sasso called "Who Counts?" Levine and Sasso are Christian and Jewish children's books authors. They explore stories of faith and community through a unique lens, often reimagining the stories and expanding upon them. This book explores how each of us is important, even if we think or feel like we aren't. God notices when we are missing or sad!

Our theme for the month of September is COMMUNITY! In September, we traditionally celebrate Homecoming, or the start of the "church year" in September with a fun day of activities and food after church.
This week, we're talking about Paul's letter to Philemon and reading a book published by Amnesty International called "Dreams of Freedom." This book, assembled with quotations from famous champions of human rights and illustrations by many different artists, explores the rights to freedom that all of us have and deserve.
